Towards Efficient NDN Framework for Connected Vehicle Applications

Abstract: Named Data Networking (NDN) recently arises as a promising technology to support connected vehicle (CV) applications due to the match between their characteristics. However, the fast mobility and the vast number of vehicles raise great challenges in designing a scalable and efficient NDN network for CV applications. Therefore, in this paper, we develop an NDN based CV application framework that handles the challenge through innovations in two aspects. First, we propose a hierarchical hyperbolic NDN backbone ar… Show more

“…An attacking window has been considered to evaluate the performance of IFA mitigation schemes under normal and abnormal circumstances. The existing scheme in a 7, when no attack mitigation scheme is applied, the PIT utilisation ratio begins to increase as malicious incoming Interest packets are received at an intermediate vehicle during the attacking window (4)(5)(6)(7)(8)(9)(10)(11). The variation in the PIT utilisation ratio of the proposed scheme specifies the high mobility of vehicular nodes.…”

“…It is reported in the Cisco Visual Networking Index that Internet traffic will reach up to 396 exabytes per month by 2022 [6]. The use of a conventional TCP/IP model in VANET for the dissemination of bulky data is not feasible effective and reliable data dissemination for connected vehicles [10]. Rather than securing a communication channel, NDN secures data itself.…”

“…Experimental-based NDN solutions for VANET supporting various communications categories (V2V, V2I, and V2R) have been produced and have demonstrated their potential to improve the QoS of VANETs [108]. Furthermore, the authors of [109] examined the promising potential of NDN for connected vehicle applications. However, the support of fast mobility and a large number of vehicle-aware solutions and frameworks needs to be improved.…”

“…Although NDN routing can provide benefitsespecially a loop-free route-it increases network traffic and resource consumption when the network topology changes rapidly [12], [13]. To solve this problem, [14] proposes a distributed adaptive caching strategy technique over a hierarchical NDN backbone to reduce the amount of transmitted traffic for large and congested vehicular networks.…”
