The Internet of Things (IoT) in the manufacturing industry shares machine data in real time. The majority of industrial data can be gathered and processed from machines and other remote IoT devices in a production system through data streaming. As sensors become smaller and more affordable, the Internet of things will attract more attention. It is possible to employ a wide range of sensors for monitoring, and with efficient open-source software, the status of the operation can be evaluated effectively. Our work aims at providing instructions for sending data (cutting tool status time) from Particle Photon devices connected to CNC milling machines to open-source software called ThingSpeak. This task is accomplished by integrating the Particle Photon device with the infrared sensor to the CNC milling machine. Three axis CNC vertical milling machine is used to manufacture the sample component. The status of the cutting tool, in this case the cutting time for each machining feature is monitored. Using infrared technology, the sensor detects whether the cutting tool is present. Particle photons measure machining time and communicate it to ThingSpeak. The ThingSpeak library will interpret the cloud information and displays it. With ThingSpeak software, we define the fields for various cutting tools and track every tool in real time. The time recorded using ThingSpeak software is found to be near to the time, which is monitored manually by the user. A major step in computer assisted process planning in manufacturing is monitoring the machining time for each cutting tool and it is successfully implemented in this research work.

Currently deployed legacy industrial systems were not designed with the future industry 4.0 vision in mind and lack advanced, and often even basic, security features. Further, the presence of legacy systems not only introduces security and data privacy challenges but is also a barrier for the adoption of emerging cloud technologies. This paper proposes an approach for seamless and secure migration of legacy industrial control systems to the cloud. It investigates whether the cloud can meet the real-time requirements for control operations without compromising system safety. The proposed approach is designed to cause no or minimal interruption to industrial processes during cloud migration and offers a generic framework to be applied for different industrial sectors. As a use case, this paper presents the design and validation for synchrophasor technology in smart grid using the Amazon AWS cloud. Experiments on a real laboratory-based cyber-physical tested concluded that proposed cloud migration approach is promising for time-critical systems such as synchrophasor technology.

Textile and apparel manufacturing industry of India is second highest employment generator sector and largest contributor to India’s GDP. Unfortunately, it lacks behind in innovations and adoption of technology to meet the challenges. The basic problem remains as how to bring varied designs to market quickly with less efforts and cost. The adoption of CAD technology offering enormous benefits to apparel manufacturers in India. It makes quick and efficient revisions in apparel design changes including colour adjustments on fabric pattern and resizing garments. CAD system enable designers to produce more accurate designs with less chance of mistakes by saving cost and time. Its integration with CAM offers many advantages during manufacturing process and makes the apparel production faster with consistent and accurate results every time. As all information related to design and production are stored in file format, it makes very easy to produce the same design again without repetition of previous activities. The introduction of CAD technology in the industry resulted to improved efficiency of the design process due to automation of routine design tasks, increased employee productivity and shortened lead time in the product development process. This study highlights on adoption of CAD technology, limitations and its impact on business.
