Towards human-like and transhuman perception in AI 2.0: a review

Abstract: Perception is the interaction interface between an intelligent system and the real world. Without sophisticated and flexible perceptual capabilities, it is impossible to create advanced artificial intelligence (AI) systems. For the next-generation AI, called 'AI 2.0', one of the most significant features will be that AI is empowered with intelligent perceptual capabilities, which can simulate human brain's mechanisms and are likely to surpass human brain in terms of performance. In this paper, we briefly revie… Show more

“…Perception is the interface between an artificial system and the real world, which is an essential function of artificial intelligence (AI) systems. , The continuous progress of information technologies such as IntelliSense, 5G, and AI has resulted in a notable evolution in the areas of human–machine interfaces, artificial perceptual systems, robots, and prosthetics. Simultaneously, it has revealed urgent requirements in regard to an ultralow power consumption and high efficiency of devices and systems.…”

“…Although AI is currently designed to mimic human brain structures, in deep learning as part of machine learning [6] or to develop the "city brain" as brain-like tissues interacting with the internet [7] and functioning, the ultimate intent as with emotional intelligence simulations [8] is to outdo human performance (cf. [9]) and efficiency: "With AI, computers can [analyze] and learn from information at higher accuracy and speed than humans can" [1]. The reason for this may be that they are intended for service as service robots ( [10]; including, for example, autonomous robots operating in public service [11]), industrial (and service) robots [12], and care providers in the burgeoning caring robot industry [13].…”

“…Robotic systems were instrumental in developing tasks that require precision, decreased time, high demand, and cost reduction. According to [1], a robotic system is a reprogrammable, multifunctional manipulator that is designed to move materials, parts, tools, or specialized devices through variable programmed movements which perform different tasks. Besides, manufacturing, agriculture, mining, exploration, and transportation fields implement robotic systems for employing their activities.…”
