Towards Liquid Fuels from Biosyngas: Effect of Zeolite Structure in Hierarchical‐Zeolite‐Supported Cobalt Catalysts

Abstract: Wax on, wax off: Bifunctional cobalt-based catalysts on zeolite supports are applied for the valorization of biosyngas through Fischer-Tropsch chemistry. By using these catalysts, waxes can be hydrocracked to shorter-chain hydrocarbons, increasing the selectivity towards the C5 -C11 (gasoline) fraction. The zeolite topology and the amount and strength of acid sites are key parameters to maximize the performance of these bifunctional catalysts, steering Fischer-Tropsch product selectivity towards liquid hydroca… Show more

“…This can be achieved by either evaluating the properties of hierarchical zeolites using a single method comprising different degrees of mesoporosity (Fig. Although several works have reported the superior performance of bifunctional faujasite catalysts, 21,93,94 the role of external surface in the preparation of bifunctional catalysis is relatively unclear. Especially in studies contacting USY zeolites with CTA + -containing alkaline solutions, such systematic approaches should help to more precisely unravel the relationships between synthesis, properties, and function, crucial to the application-oriented design of hierarchical faujasites (Fig.…”

“…Similar results have also been obtained for mesoporous beta-supported Ru catalysts. [85][86][87][88] Rangel and co-workers investigated the catalytic performance of a meso-beta-supported cobalt catalyst. The use of H-meso-beta-0.15 m with a stronger acidity as the support for Ru nanoparticles (mean Ru diameter = 7.2 nm) resulted in a slightly lower C 5 -C 11 selectivity (67 %), but the C iso /C n ratio increased to about 3.5.…”
