“…Forgacs et al (1962) were able to produce the toxicosis in chicks both in batteries and in the field using fungi isolated from feed and litter from hemorrhagic syndrome enzootic areas. Rubratoxin (Wyatt and Hamilton, 1972), aflatoxin B^ (Hamilton et al, 1971), ochratoxin A (Huff et al, 1978), T-2 toxin (Wyatt et al, 1973), and citrinin (Witlock et al, 1977;Roberts and Mora, 1977b;Roberts and Mora, 1978;Roberts, 1977b) are the major toxins associated with five fungi reported to cause the hemorrhagic anemia syndrome, yet none of these toxins caused the symptoms of the syndrome. Recent work indicated that Penicillium citrinum AUA-532 contaminated corn caused an anemia and leucopenia in chicks (Roberts, 1977b) which corresponded to the symptoms observed in the poultry hemorrhagic syndrome and confirmed the findings of Forgacs et al (1962).…”
