TPMS Designer: A tool for generating and analyzing triply periodic minimal surfaces

Abstract: Implicitly defined structures such as triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS) have potential applications in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. TPMS Designer is a tool for rapidly generating, visualizing and analyzing implicitly defined structures. The software allows users to parametrically modify the size, aspect ratio, rotation, and resolution of a structure. Cellular volume fraction can be adjusted using surface type and isovalue options. TPMS Designer includes tools for importing and … Show more

“…Due to their flexibility, these packages are more beneficial for research purposes than the mentioned commercial packages. Examples include Matlab‐based standalone tools such as the STL Lattice Generator, [ 23 ] Minisurf, [ 24 ] TPMS Designer, [ 25 ] Lattice_Karak, [ 26 ] Flatt Pack, [ 27 ] and MSLattice. [ 28 ] Minisurf is a simple tool that allows the visualization of basic unit cells and exports surface only.…”

“…40 A simple mathematical function can be used to define TPMS-based architected materials. 41,42 TPMS is the porous structure and available variety of classical forms, including Schwarz's Primitive and Diamond, Gyroid, I-WP, Neovius, Lidinoid, Split P, and Fischer Koch as shown in Figure 1 and F-RD. [43][44][45] Biomedical engineering, 46 aviation, 47 hydrodynamics and mass transfer performance, 48 thin-wall heat transfer units, 49 mechanical and wave propagation, 50 and chemical engineering 51 all benefited from TPMS structures.…”
