“…In this paper, the vegetation history of four coastal sites by the Mar Ligure Sea is reconstructed through pollen analysis of ten cores and an attempt to trace the Holocene landscape history of the NW Italian coasts is made by delineating typological and chronological correlations between the various pollen sequences. Palynological research on sedimentary series of the NW Italian coasts has been sporadically undertaken in the past (Galletti Fancelli, 1971, 1979Montanari et al, 1998;Arobba et al, 2001;Mariotti-Lippi et al, 2007a, b). Correlating this data with new research could allow a broader picture of the history of these coasts and of the man-environment relationship to be revealed.…”

“…The sequences recorded in the area in the previous years, up to a depth of 33 m below road level, already showed the occurrence of coarse sediments in the upper levels and silty-clayey horizons in the lower part, often rich in organic matter. These data point to an alluvial depositional environment and marshy areas, related to the mouth of the Bisagno (Montanari et al, 1997(Montanari et al, , 2014.…”

BC (GrA 5156 6200 ± 50 BP; Montanari et al, 1997), dug during the same construction work to build an underground car park, was put forward (Maggi, 1996a(Maggi, , 1996b.…”

“…BP; Accorsi et al, 1999;Vescovi et al, 2010). In general, its past diffusion was decidedly broader than may now be found in Emilia Romagna as indeed across the rest of the Italian Peninsula (e.g., Montanari et al, 1997;Mariotti Lippi et al, 2007;Di Rita et al, 2011;Joannin et al, 2012). Abies decline was evident in the mid-Holocene, possibly due to the loosely coupled effect of increasing dryness and human pressure from the Neolithic onwards.…”
