Traditional Catamaran Hull Form Configurations that Reduce Total Resistance

Abstract: Catamaran resistance is very complex compared to monohull resistance, so it is particularly worthy of research. The below-water-level hull form influences the fluid flow characteristics around the ship, which either increases or decreases the total resistance. This study focuses on developing a new hull form by using the Lackenby Method to modify an existing hull form in such a way that reduces the total resistance. The total resistance was calculated using computational fluid dynamics, since the Navier-Stokes… Show more

“…The resistance calculation uses Tdyn software which simulates the ship at certain speed travels in calm water and predicts its resistance. The calculation of ship resistance using Tdyn has been carried out by Samuel et al [8] and Iqbal et al [9]. Their CFD results are relatively good with the empirical equation proposed by Jamaluddin [10].…”

“…In this research discusses the potential use of the that renewable energy sources which are implemented in the catamaran prototype with specifications length of arc 170 cm, beam 100 cm and depth 32 cm. Catamaran ship is a twin-hull ship [28], where the two hulls are connected with substantial deck construction and stretch on it to withstand large bending moments and shear forces and work towards the midline (Centerline) ship [29], [30]. The catamaran model uses a battery to supply energy to the DC motor.…”

“…A potentialflow method was carried out to determine the lift force of single-deadrise hulls and catamaran configurations in which hydrodynamics pressure was more pronounced between two catamaran hulls (Bari and Matveev, 2017). Iqbal and Samuel, (2017) have conducted research catamaran hull form show that the fluid form that surrounds the ship hull influences ship resistance. Mittendorf and Papanikolaou (2020) investigated catamaran resistance and also found an increase in total resistance due to viscous interference.…”
