Traffic management for drones flying in the city

Abstract: Air Traffic Management (ATM) is designed based on the notion of a pilot navigating an aircraft from within the aircraft. Increasing demand for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) usage and its safe integration into segregated/non-segregated airspace, on the other hand, have raised a question on the adoption of the current ATM for the UAS Traffic Management (UTM). The Procedures for Air Navigation Services-Air Traffic Management (PAN-ATM) and Procedures for Air Navigation Services -aircraft operations (PAN-OPS) rul… Show more

“…Amazon proposed assessing safe access with a best-equipped, best-served model for UAS, categorizing UAS based on vehicle systems and technologies, also known as equipage. Moreover, Amazon proposes a model based on a single operator controlling a wide range of vehicles, which substantially decentralizes decision-making authority among operators [15]. Google's UAS Airspace System architecture divides the airspace into classifications as defined by the FAA [16].…”

“…The usage of small, low-altitude UAVs has snowballed in recent years [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]. Objection detection techniques based on UAVs equipped with vision sensors have attracted much interest in areas such as unmanned vehicles and intelligent transportation systems [ 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 ]. UAV-based aerial vehicle detection techniques are less expensive than cameras installed at fixed locations and produce more extensive image views, greater flexibility, and broader coverage.…”
