Traffic Noise Experienced on Buses, Trams and Cars in the Urban Agglomeration of the City of Katowice

Abstract: TRAFFIC NOISE EXPERIENCED ON BUSES, TRAMS AND CARS IN THE URBAN AGGLOMERATION OF THE CITY OF KATOWICE Summary. Transport noise is one of the biggest problems faced by urban agglomerations. Therefore, more and more activities are being undertaken related to its reduction. The article attempts to investigate the noise level on public transport vehicles, buses, trams and passenger cars, from the passenger's perspective. The assessment is based on the results of field tests. The study considered wheeled and rail v… Show more

“…Previous studies ( Jang et al, 2015 ; Michta and Haniszewski, 2018 ; SAE International, 2020 ) have suggested that study sites should be selected based on the relationship between traffic volume, vehicle speed, and noise levels. This takes into account the different noise levels generated by varying levels of traffic volume and vehicle speed on the roads.…”

“…The study of the internal noise level in the bus with the hybrid-series configuration Volvo 7900 and the tram Konstal 105N HF was done at an inter-station distance between the stations Zawodzie Laczna and Zawodzie Petla, in Katowice (Poland). The range of emitted internal noise in the hybrid bus was between 54÷78 dB, while in the tram the range was in the range of 75÷85 dB [7]. Measurement of the level of external noise generated by city buses of standard length when the vehicle is in motion and when at rest, was done in the study Urban buses -Alternative powertrains for Europe.…”

“…The issues of measuring and limiting transport noise, especially in large agglomerations, are gaining more and more importance [12]. All requirements related to the admission to use of railway vehicles in the European Union countries are regulated by the provisions called the Technical Specifications for Interoperability, i.e.…”
