Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement: 2015 in Review

Abstract: Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has emerged as an attractive option for patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis (AS) who are either at high risk or extreme risk for surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). This article summarizes the major advances in TAVR that were published or reported in 2015. (J Interven Cardiol 2016;29:27–46)

“…Those variables were selected based on clinical significance referred to previous studies. 13,14 The results of the multivariable Cox regression analysis were expressed as hazard ratios (HR) for the comparison of risk with 95% confidence interval (CI). The logistic multivariable analysis was used to identify predictors of late TR progression.…”

“…The first human transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) was reported in a patient with severe aortic stenosis (AS) presenting with cardiogenic shock in 2002. 1 During recent years great progress was achieved in TAVI for native degenerated aortic valves. 2 Different transcatheter heart valves were designed 3 and long term follow up are available.…”
