Transient Temperature Distribution in Human Dermal Part With Protective Layer at Low Atmospheric Temperature

Abstract: A mathematical model of temperature distribution in human dermal part under cooling is discussed in this paper. The skin is assumed to be covered by artificial protective layer which absorbs sweat. The metabolic heat generation rate in subcutaneous part is assumed to be decreasing exponentially. Also the quantitative behavior of blood flow rate due to cooling is considered in this part. Finite element approach based on calculus of variations has been employed to solve the model equations with appropriate consi… Show more

“…The results are comparable with those obtained in [10,11] who considered onl corporated more feasible layers and has taken significant biophysical parameters in case of human males and females. After considering differences in metabolic heat production between sexes, males and females would differ in their physiological responses in temperature distribution.…”

“…Agrawal et al [21] constructed two dimensional thermal distributions model in dermal layers of elliptical shaped human limbs involving metastasis of tumors. Gurung and Saxena [6] used Eq. (2.1) to construct a model for one dimensional transient temperature distribution in human dermal part with protective layer at low atmospheric temperature.…”

“…A hand skin surface temperature of 20 0 C is considered to be uncomfortably cold, 15 0 C to be extremely cold, and 5 0 C to be painfully cold [4]. Many models have been developed for SST temperature distribution profile at normal and abnormal ambient temperatures for still air [5][6][7][8][9]. Earlier experimental investigations were made by Patterson [10] to obtain temperature profiles in the SST Region.…”

“…In a human body the internal body temperature almost remains constant despite the fluctuation of environmental temperatures up to certain limits. The main organ that keeps core temperature constant is dermal part [1]. There is no skin layer to keep the core temperature constant in case of human eye.…”

“…The difficulty of modeling in the eye is due to the impact of blood flow on the heat transfer; however, incorporating the impact of blood flow in heat transport calculation is very important [2]. The temperature inside the human body depends on the degree of temperature, duration of exposure and the environmental conditions which cause heat gain/loss from tissues [1]. Hence, blood flow and time are the main factors that affect temperature distribution in human eye.…”
