“…The opposite, blind, or back side of folds can also be better observed with cap-fitted colonoscopy because these are easily straightened to improve the view [13,28]. Finally, the lateral wall can be observed through the transparent wall of the cap [27].…”

“…Finally, the lateral wall can be observed through the transparent wall of the cap [27]. The negative feature of cap-fitted colonoscopy is related to the fact that fecal matter may stick to the inside of the cap, impairing the view and emphasizing the need for excellent bowel cleansing with this procedure [28].…”

“…Cap-assisted colonoscopy (CAC) uses a transparent plastic hood attached to the tip of the colonoscope to flatten the semilunar folds and improve mucosal exposure. Several studies have examined that CAC facilitated shortening of the cecal intubation time in difficult cases, and was more sensitive for detecting adenomas than was conventional colonoscopy 1,2. A meta-analysis and systemic review suggests that a transparent cap on the end of the colonoscope may give a marginally faster cecal intubation time compared with standard colonoscopy.…”

“…Without bending the tip, a standard colonoscope with a 140 deg angle of view may fail to image ∼20% of the surface area of the colon. 9 Colon cancer prevention thus hangs precariously on a suboptimal procedure that does not view the total surface of the colon and can fail to detect lesions with low color contrast. 7 Retroflexion of the tip of the scope can be performed in locations such as the ascending colon to look behind folds, but is often not technically possible or can be painful.…”
