Treatment of the Unstable Bladder with Propantheline and Imipramine

Abstract: This study shows propantheline and imipramine to be effective in the management of the unstable bladder. It emphasizes the need for urodynamic studies for the accurate diagnosis of urinary incontinence. Comparisons have been made of the efficacy of propantheline and imipramine in various groups of incontinent women and indicates that in appropriately selected groups the 'cure' rate is over 70% but if sphincter weakness is excluded, urodynamics cannot differentiate between those women with unstable bladders who… Show more

“…IMIPRAMINA La Imipramina comenzó a utilizarse en clínica a finales de los años 70 en muy variadas situaciones clínicas, confirmándose en general una disminución de la contractilidad vesical con incremento de la resistencia uretral 12,[40][41][42] . La investigación clínica sobre la Imipramina es amplia [43][44][45][46][47][48][49][50][51][52][53][54][55][56][57][58] , cabe destacar el trabajo de Castleden et al (1981) 43 en el que trataron 10 pacientes añosos con inestabilidad del detrusor con una única dosis de 25 mg/Kg de Imipramina al acostarse, incrementando la dosis progresivamente, cada tercer día, hasta conseguir que el paciente fuera continente o hasta que experimentara reacciones adversas hasta una dosis máxima de 150 mg.
