“…28 Thyroid HAS is usually regarded as an extremely aggressive neoplasm with a dismal prognosis, similar to anaplastic carcinoma. However, our cases, as well as those reported by certain other authors, 3,12 show that HAS can behave in a less aggressive way, particularly if there is no extrathyroidal spread of the tumour at the time of operation. 19 Of course, the number of cases in the present series is too small to allow us to draw any definitive prognostic conclusions about this tumour entity and further studies are needed.…”

In other areas it is extremely rare with only sporadic cases being reported 10–13 .…”

“…While aggressive surgical resection to achieve local control of cancer remains the cornerstone of primary treatment [3], most patients develop postoperative early systemic metastasis; this observation leads to the hypothesis that undetected systemic micrometastases are present at the time of diagnosis. So the proposal to use adjuvant chemotherapy for systemic control and radiotherapy for local control in the treatment of angiosarcoma has been widely accepted [3,4,7,9]. In spite of chemotherapy the present patient did not get much benefit from this therapy.…”

“…Most European authors think that these lesions represent true vascular neoplasms. 6,8,9,14,15,17,20,22,23,25 Authors who accept the vascular nature of these specimens base their assertion on the factor VIII immunoreactivity of the neoplastic cells. 21,28,29 The vascular nature has been corroborated by several ultrastructural studies that have supported an endothelial origin.…”
