“…They were many bibliometric researches in the field of oncology (Ugolini and Mela, 2003;Ugolini et al, 2007;Michon and Tummers, 2009;Chua et al, 2011). However, few studies have documented patterns of publications in clinical and basic science research involving breast cancer research output (Glynn et al, 2010;Perez-Santos and Anaya-Ruiz, 2013).…”

“…9 Assessments of the state of surgical research have been based on a variety of measures, making it difficult to make comparisons and determine trends. Variously 'success' has been defined by the quality, quantity and location of publications, [10][11][12][13][14] the value and type of research grant funding received and applied for, 1,[15][16][17][18] the extent of collaboration with other researchers 19,20 and the level of evidence presented at scientific meetings. 2 Additional measures such as innovation, development of young investigators, customer satisfaction and extent of market share have also been suggested as worthwhile indicators of surgical research performance.…”

“…With the wide availability of bibliometric analytical software, there is a rapid proliferation of bibliometric studies on various medical topics in recent years. For example, bibliometric analyses have been utilized to profile the trend of research on various diseases or interventions [10, 11], to quantify a country’s scientific output [12], to gain an insight into the changes in performance over time in a particular area of research [13], to identify highly cited publication [14] and their characteristics [15], and to explore the hot topics of research in a given field [16]. …”
