Triangular Graphene Grain Growth on Cube‐Textured Cu Substrates

Abstract: The growth of graphene has been carried out on cube-textured (100) oriented Cu (CTO-Cu) foils using chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Well-aligned triangular grains self-assembled on CTO-Cu during CVD heating in fl owing hydrogen. The nucleation of triangular graphene grains has been confi rmed. This demonstrates that the shape and possible alignment of the graphene grains can potentially be tuned by changing the properties of the substrate, which should ultimately lead to improved electrical properties of the … Show more

“…Therefore, to enhance electronic properties of graphene‐based devices, investigations on growth of single‐crystal graphene grains have been motivated. Recent advances in the CVD method have enabled the preparation of single‐crystal graphene grains with several shapes . Among those grains, hexagonal graphene has been the most extensively explored since it was observed on solid copper (Cu) foil .…”

“…Among those grains, hexagonal graphene has been the most extensively explored since it was observed on solid copper (Cu) foil . Apart from that, triangular, rectangular, four‐lobed, and snow‐like graphene grains have been achieved, demonstrating the great potential in shaping graphene using CVD approach on metal substrates.…”

“…Indeed, graphene with larger domains exhibited higher carrier mobilities, as evidenced by electrical transport measurements [99,100]. It is encouraging that signi cant progress has been made towards growing graphene with large single crystal domains [99][100][101][102].…”

“…Unfortunately, the size of the triangular graphene crystals was limited to several nanometers and could be referred to as ‘nano‐graphene’. Inspired by the aim to fabricate large sized graphene single crystals, Wu's group successfully observed the growth of micrometer‐scale triangular graphene on cube‐textured (100) oriented Cu (CTO‐Cu) foils using CVD. It was also found that well‐aligned triangular graphene crystals ( Figure a) were firstly self‐assembled on CTO‐Cu during CVD heating in flowing H 2 .…”
