Triceps Tendon Ruptures

Abstract: » Triceps tendon ruptures (TTRs) are rare and often occur as a result of falling on an outstretched hand, forceful eccentric contraction, direct trauma to the elbow, or lifting against resistance.» TTRs are most commonly seen in middle-aged men, football players, and weightlifters.» Radiography, ultrasonography, and magnetic resonance imaging may be utilized for diagnosis and to guide treatment.» Acute partial TTRs may have good outcomes with nonoperative management. Surgery should be considered if nonoperativ… Show more

“…Contudo, lesões parciais não possuem consenso na literatura, além de possivelmente serem subdiagnosticadas. Alguns autores optam pelo tratamento conservador, enquanto outros, orientam que a manutenção apenas da cabeça medial não é suficiente para manter a função do paciente, além de que, haverá evolução para ruptura completa [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] .…”

“…Bilateral, simultaneous injuries are infrequently observed within the literature without a reported incidence. In general, TTRs have been associated with multiple risk factors including anabolic or local steroid use, fluoroquinolone use, and systemic illness such as hyperparathyroidism, renal osteodystrophy, and rheumatoid arthritis 56,57 . Anabolic steroid use and renal failure have been reported in bilateral injuries, but the presence of additional or unique risk factors has not been examined 58,59 .…”

“…Postoperative rehabilitation protocols after primary repair vary across the literature, but collectively, the return of preinjury motion and strength can be expected within 3 to 4 months 57,63 . Owing to rarity of TTR and overwhelm-ing lack of evidence, rehabilitation protocols after distal biceps repair have been used to augment conventional approaches to TTR rehabilitation 57 .…”
