Triterpenoids and Sesquiterpenes fromMulgedium tataricum

Abstract: The chemical investigation of Mulgedium tataricum afforded six new compounds which were identified as lanost-9(11),23 Z(24)-diene-3beta,25-diol (1), lanost-9(11),25-diene-3beta,24beta-diol (2), ursane-20-ene-3beta,22alpha-diol (3), 4 E,10 E-3beta,11beta-dihydroxygermacra-4(5),10(1)-dien-12,6alpha-olide (4), 4 E-1beta-hydroperoxy-3beta,11beta-dihydroxygermacra-4(5),10(14)-dien-12,6alpha-olide (5) and lactucin-8-O-P-methoxyphenyl acetate (6) by using a combination of MS and NMR techniques. Compound 6 exhibited s… Show more

“…169 A cytotoxic sesquiterpene lactone, lactucin-8-O-p-methoxyphenyl acetate 303, has been obtained from Mulgedium tataricum. 170 The structure of 1α,8α-epidioxy-4α-hydroxy-5αH-guai-7(11),9-dien-12,8-olide 304, isolated from Curcuma wenyujin with anti-influenza viral activity, has been confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiment. 171 The complete relative configuration of the known sesquiterpene (+)-dioxo-sarcoguaiacol has been established.…”

“…194 A germacranolide peroxide 342 was identified as a component of mulgedium tataricum. 170 Chemical investigation of Santolina insularis afforded two germacrane sesquiterpene peroxides 343 and 344, which might derive from the formal photo-oxygenation of the corresponding ∆ 4,5 olefin, a reaction well precedented in medium-sized olefins. …”

“…UA is a natural pentacyclic triterpene isolated from several medicinal plants such as Baccharis uncinella, Rosemarinus officinalis, and Radix actinidiae ; it has anti-inflammatory [ 19 ], anti-cancer [ 20 ], and anti-microbial activities [ 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 ]. In L. (L.) amazonensis, UA induced morphological, physiological, and biochemical alterations that resembled programmed cell death; additionally, BALB/c mice treated with UA by the intralesional route improved cutaneous lesions and showed lower tissue parasites than non-treated infected mice [ 26 ].…”

“…Compound 5 was identified as a lanost-9(11),25-diene-3β,24β-diol and compound 6 was identified to be a lanost-9(11),23E(24)-diene-3β,25-diol by comparison of literature NMR data and mass spectra reported for compounds isolated from Mulgedium tataricum (L.) DC. (Asteraceae) [10,11]. Compound 7 was identified as (+) syringaresinol by comparing its NMR data with those available in the literature [12].…”
