“…The EMZSB has exhibited significant (p < 0.01) α-glucosidase inhibition with an IC 50 value of 119.79 ± 1.52 µg mL −1 as compared to AEMZSB, when acarbose was the reference standard. These findings of moderate α-glucosidase inhibitory effects by EMZSB inclined us to rely on the provenance of a profusion of the varied amount of phytochemicals in this bark like spinasterol (Nkobole et al 2021), (+)-dihydrokaempferol (Saltos et al 2015), lupeol acetate (Srisurichan and Pornpakakul 2015), stigmasterol (Kumar et al 2013), ergosterol peroxide (Eawsakul et al 2021), and hederagonic acid (Xiao-An et al 2010) which were earlier reported for their α-glucosidase inhibition capabilities.…”

“…In contrast, the IC 50 of CE-ol and isoCE-ol could not be estimated because their inhibitory rate was below 10% at the highest concentration, 30 μg mL −1 , in both α-glucosidase and α-amylase inhibitory assays. The IC 50 of CE-ol is reportedly more than 1000 μM, while that of acarbose is 884.6 μM in the α-glucosidase inhibitory assay (Srisurichan & Pornpakakul, 2015). Therefore, based on the structure and activity of these four triterpenes, our results indicate that the carbonyl ketone at C-3 is crucial for their α-glucosidase and α-amylase inhibitory activity.…”

“…Inhibitory activity was assessed with the help of the substrate pNPG and the active enzyme α-glucosidase on the basis of a previous study with slight modifications. 26 Specific volumes of the test sample dissolved in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) suitable to prepare different concentration gradients (10 μL) were transferred to each well of a 96-well plate. Subsequently, 30 μL of 0.1 mol/L phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) at pH 6.8 and 10 μL of 1 U/mL α-glucosidase dissolved in PBS were added.…”
