TRIZ-assisted Stage-Gate Process for Developing New Products

Abstract: This paper describes a method to improve innovation by integrating TRIZ tools into the Stage-Gate process. The problem now is that existing best industry practices for developing new products, in particular the Stage-Gate process, are still relatively inefficient, especially as concerns radical and disruptive innovations. On the other hand, a method such as TRIZ, which is specifically directed at efficient innovation and could dramatically improve these practices, is underused. The proposed TRIZ-Assisted Stage… Show more

“…Indeed, it was found in a recent study that inclusion of the lattice energy (sublimation enthalpy) descriptor, which captures only short-range interactions, did not significantly improve the quality of the aqueous solubility QSPR models . In addition to this, there are important entropic contributions, which are noticeably more pronounced in absolute value in the sublimation rather than in the fusion thermodynamic cycle and should be appropriately considered for an accurate QSPR modeling of sublimation free energy, Δ G sub . , As a result, all these considerations support the conclusion that the solid state contribution is the limiting factor in accuracy and predictive power of the QSPR models of the intrinsic aqueous solubility of crystalline drug-like compounds independently of the thermodynamic cycle considered.…”

“…All of these projects were performed for different clients representing a variety of industries; all of them were aimed at NPD or at developing a new technology for manufacturing an existing product. In all projects the TRIZ-assisted Stage-Gate process [5] was employed.…”

“…In contrast, TRIZ offers a different way to improve the efficacy of the NPD process: generate fewerbut better and more targetedideas, as provided by the TRIZ-assisted Stage-Gate process [5]. The efficacy of TRIZ as a problem solving and problem finding methodology is confirmed in numerous papers, for example by Filmore and Thomond [6], Harlim and Belski [7].…”

“…However, when the inventor highlights the technical difficulty associated with the selected patented system, the inventor will focus on finding the system's root cause(s) at the component level. Typically, the root cause(s) can be easily detected when assessing the functions in the model 22. The other type of abnormal function that TRIZ has defined is impaired, excessive, and harmful.…”
