The plant elicitors use as an agricultural input is limited and few studies show their influence on physiological responses. However, its use can induce broad-spectrum and long-lasting resistance in plants by inducing defense systems, primary and secondary metabolism. The the aim of this study was to evaluate the gas exchange (gs, A, E, Ci, WUE, iWUE and iCE) and enzymatic antioxidant system (POD, PPO and PAL) of Z. mays under elicitors application. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design with seven treatments: control (sterilized distilled water); Rocksil® (3 g L-1); Poagrim® (3 g L-1); Bion® (0.4 g L-1); Agrosilicon Plus® (3 g L-1); Ecolife® (3 mL L-1); Thiabendazol® (1 g L-1), with four repetitions and three plants per repetition. Gas exchange (net photosynthesis [A], stomatal conductance [gs], internal carbon concentration [Ci], transpiration rate [E], instantaneous water use efficiency [WUE= A/E], intrinsic water use efficiency [iWUE= A/gs], instantaneous carboxylation efficiency [iCE= A/Ci], and enzymatic activity (peroxidase [POX], polyphenol oxidase [PPO], phenylalanine ammonia-lyase [PAL]) were evaluated at 40 and 45 days after sowing. Gs, A, WUE, iCE and peroxidase activity increased in plants whose seeds were soaked with Rocksil® and Thiabendazol®. The phenylalanine ammonia-lyase activity was reduced in plants from seeds soaked in Ecolife®. The elicitors increased the gas exchange and antioxidant system of Zea mays L.

In Brazil, Eucalyptus plantations are found, generally in soils with naturally low chemical fertility. Silicon (Si) can improve photosynthesis, decrease plant transpiration and increase water use efficiency (WUE). This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Si supply at five rates (0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00 mmol L −1 ) for growing Eucalyptus clone IPB8 seedlings (E. urophylla × E. grandis) in Clark's nutrient solution in a greenhouse. Plant growth, nutritional status, gas exchange, leaf water potential (Ψ w ), leaf area (LA), inclination angle of leaves and stomatal density (SD) were measured. There was no significant response in Eucalyptus seedling growth due to Si application, which was related to the absence of benefits provided by Si in plant nutritional status and physiology. The efficiency of assimilation (EA), efficiency of translocation (ET) and efficiency of utilization (EU) did not show significant results either. The low ET indicates that Si was highly accumulated in the root (75.4 % in relation to total Si absorbed by plants), which may also have contributed to the lack of the benefits expected. Despite that, Si application promoted higher rates of photosynthesis when compared to plants with 0 mmol Si L −1 , increasing the total dry matter production by up to 28 % at an Si rate 0.50 mmol L −1 , which also provided a trend of higher growth, EU, LA and SLA, showing it to be the best rate for this Eucalyptus species.

O presente estudo teve por objetivo investigar o crescimento da espécie vegetal Ruta graveolens L. (arruda) sob diferentes frequências e intensidades sonoras. Para isso, utilizamos 30 repetições individuais de arruda distribuídas em 5 tratamentos com 6 repetições vegetais cada. Os tratamentos investigados foram T1 (controle com condições naturais de ondas sonoras); T2 [90 decibéis (dB) & 2000 hertz (Hz)]; T3 [90 dB & 1000 Hz]; T4 [60 dB & 2000 Hz]; T5 [60 dB & 1000 Hz] e cada uma destas repetições foram espaçadas entre si a fim de que não houvesse sobreposição entre os tratamentos. As plantas foram cultivadas por 21 dias e as frequências sonoras foram adicionadas durante o período compreendido entre 07h00min às 08h00min, diariamente. O experimento mensurou o crescimento de folhas, caules e raízes. Após a obtenção da massa de matéria seca vegetal, verificamos o efeito promotor dos tratamentos ‘T3’ e ‘T5’ nos valores biomassa da raiz. Especulamos que houve alteração do crescimento promovida por fitohormônios, embora esses não foram avaliados no presente estudo. Por fim, aceitamos a hipótese de que a espécie vegetal Ruta graveolens L. (arruda) sobrevive na presença de diferentes intensidades e frequências sonoras.
