Two aerobic exercise programs in management of back pain among middle-aged obese women: a randomized controlled study

Abstract: Back pain is a frequent symptom in the obese. The purpose of the study was to compare the effects of two training programs on the reduction of back pain among obese women. The study included 30 obese women who reported back pain within 3 months preceding enrollment. The subjects were randomly allocated to endurance or endurance/resistance physical exercise. The intensity of the exercise was adjusted to 50–80% of HRmax. Back pain intensity, muscle strength of knee flexors and extensors, body balance and body com… Show more

“…our findings show that body fat percentage significantly decreased (14%) after 12 weeks of moderate-intensity endurance training. The result was consistent with previous studies [20][21][22]. It seems that endurance training-induced adaptations, including increased cell respiration due to oxidative mitochondrial enzymes capacity increment and higher oxidation of fatty acids, lead to a reduction in body fat percentage in overweight children [23].…”

“…However, it should be noted that it brings measurable health benefits, such as a reduction inadipose tissue, increased muscle mass and an improvement in the lipid profile [ 16 ]. In women with abdominal obesity who performed endurance training or mixed endurance strength training three times a week for three months, some beneficial effects were observed in terms of anthropometric parameters, body composition, physical fitness and cardiovascular function [ 17 ], liver [ 18 ] and kidney parameters [ 19 ], as well as mineral balance [ 20 ], functional skills and back pain [ 21 ].…”

“…A multitude of potential causes for back pain lead to the development of further research on various forms of its prevention and treatment. it is still difficult to determine which structures are the most important for the reduction or complete elimination of back pain [6].…”

“…Treatment offered to patients with low back disorders should be based on painless modalities so that the patient could improve their condition without experiencing negative sensations, including pain. The multiplicity of potential causes for chronic LBP leads to the conduct of further research and the development of various forms of its prevention and treatment [6]. Vojta therapy can painlessly reduce symptoms of LBP by restoring correct movement patterns; as a result, it can improve gait of people affected by LBP.…”
