“…Lymphoma cells constitutively express FasL, whereas peripheral natural killer cells from healthy volunteers express FasL only when activated [7]and FasL is predominantly expressed on activated T cells, suggesting that sFasL in serum in our study probably originated from peripheral lymphocytes of patients, activated by unknown antigen. This conclusion is based on the lack of a significant correlation between serum sFasL levels and percentage of lymphocytes in BAL fluid as well as the presence of a high percentage of activated lymphocytes in peripheral blood of pulmonary sarcoidosis, as reported in our previous study [19].
