Two-photon absorption and two-photon circular dichroism of hexahelicene derivatives: a study of the effect of the nature of intramolecular charge transfer

Abstract: Herein we report on the theoretical-experimental analysis of the one-and two-photon absorption and circular dichroism spectra of two intrinsically chiral aromatic molecules -hexahelicene derivatives -with helical chirality and intramolecular charge transfer (ICT). The primary outcomes of our investigation demonstrate that the TPA cross-section and the amplitude of the TPCD signal of this type of helicenes are strongly affected by the strength of the ICT and the nature of the extension of the electronic delocal… Show more

“…Experimental and simulated (CAM‐B3LYP in vacuo) TPA spectra and the corresponding calculated TPA electronic transitions for 1 b and 1 c are presented in Figure . The experimental σ TPA cross‐section values are in the range 5–40 GM for mono‐substituted 1 b , very similar to those of previously studied helicene derivatives, such as 2‐cyano‐carbo[6]helicene, displaying significant intramolecular charge transfer. Bis‐substituted helicene 1 c displays σ TPA in the range 1–6 GM, that is, much lower than those for 1 b .…”

“…In order to better analyze the optical properties of those thiophene derivatives, OPA, ECD, TPA, and TPCD are simulated. The corresponding theoretical formulas are briefly presented as follows . OPA coefficient (εOPA) can be calculated according to εOPA(w)1.05495×103×w×g(w,w0f,Γ)×f0fw0f …”
