U-Pb geochronology of 1.1 Ga diabase in the southwestern United States: Testing models for the origin of a post-Grenville large igneous province

Abstract: Voluminous mafi c magmatism can be a manifestation of continental breakup through rifting, or it can be an expression of the interaction of mantle plumes with continents, whether or not it leads to the formation of a new ocean basin (Halls and Fahrig, 1987; Ernst et al., 2001; Ernst and Buchan, 2003).
