The growth of micro-organisms that acquire resistance to most commercially available antibiotics is occurring rapidly. Consequently, a pressing necessity exists to identify and detect new antimicrobial substances. This study aimed to analyze the antioxidant and antibacterial activity of nanoemulsion clove extract and grape seed oil. This research was conducted in June 2023 using experimental methods at the Research Laboratory of the Universitas Islam Bandung Pharmaceutical Study Program by developing a nanoemulsion preparation containing clove extract (Syzygium aromaticum L.) and grape seed oil (Vitis vinifera L.). Antioxidant activity was tested using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method. Antibacterial activity was tested using the agar diffusion method by measuring the growth inhibitory diameter of Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus mutans bacteria and divided into four groups formulas based on the addition of clove extract with different concentrations in the nanoemulsion base (FA=0.25%, FB=0.5%, FC=0.75%, and FD=1%) to see the best results. The result shows nanoemulsion preparations have antioxidant properties in the DPPH test. The FA formula has the highest IC50, namely 1,117.56 ppm. The antibacterial activity of Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus mutans has an inhibition zone, although it is still in the category of inhibiting bacterial growth, but does not kill growth. The nanoemulsion formulation, comprising clove extract and grape seed oil, has exhibited exceptional antioxidant properties and substantial antimicrobial efficacy against prevalent oral bacterial strains.

In some parts of Indonesia, people have consumed mangrove fruit as a traditional food. Bruguiera gymnorrhiza or lindur plant, is one of the mangroves that have bioactive compounds as antioxidant. Antioxidant compounds found in Brugueira gymnorrizha fruit are thought to be able to reduce free radicals. However, the information on the benefits and potential of mangrove fruit as a source of antioxidants is still limited. Not many studies have shown that lindur plant fruit can be used as antioxidants, Therefore, further research on this topic is needed. This research aimed to identify the content of bioactive compounds and the activity of Brugueira gymnorrhiza fruit extract obtained from the Pengudang waters of Bintan Island. This research includes several analyses, including analysis of bioactive compound content, total phenolics and flavonoid content, pigment content, and antioxidant activity analysis. The method used in this research was a laboratory experimental and the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method was used to test the antioxidant activity of Bruguiera gymnorrhiza fruit extract. The results showed that the bioactive compounds contained in Bruguiera gymnorrhiza fruit extract are flavonoid and tannin compounds. The total phenolics and flavonoids amounted to 4.05 mg GAE/g sample and 9.36 mg QE/g sample. The content of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and carotenoid pigments were 0.47 mg/g, 1.03 mg/g, and 2.72 μmol/g. Bruguiera gymnorrhiza extract has potent antioxidant activity (IC50 60.77 ppm).

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the preventive effect of ethanol extract from dayak onion (Eleutherine palmifolia) on the number of Leydig cells and the diameter of seminiferous tubules in mice (Mus musculus) exposed to monosodium glutamate (MSG). Method: A total of 25 mice were divided into 5 groups. Group C- received only 0.5% CMC-Na. Group C+ was given 0.5% CMC-Na and 4 mg/gBW/day of MSG. Groups T1, T2, and T3 were administered dayak onion (Eleutherine palmifolia) ethanol extract at doses of 30, 60, and 120 mg/kgBW/day, respectively, along with 4 mg/gBW/day of MSG. All treatments were administered orally for 52 days. Result: The results indicated that MSG exposure resulted in a significant decrease in the number of Leydig cells and the diameter of seminiferous tubules in the C+ group compared to the C- group (p < 0.05). Administration of dayak onion (Eleutherine palmifolia) ethanol extract at doses of 30 (T1), 60 (T2), and 120 mg (T3) per kg BW showed similar results (p>0.05) to those of the C- group. Conclusion: In conclusion, the administration of dayak onion (Eleutherine palmifolia) ethanol extract mitigates the harmful effects of MSG on the number of Leydig cells and seminiferous tubules diameter in mice (Mus musculus) as a model. This research shows that Dayak onion (Eleutherine palmifolia) plays a role in reproductive health care.
