Ultrafast Interfacial Self-Assembly of 2D Transition Metal Dichalcogenides Monolayer Films and Their Vertical and In-Plane Heterostructures

Abstract: Cost effective scalable method for uniform film formation is highly demanded for the emerging applications of 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). We demonstrate a reliable and fast interfacial self-assembly of TMD thin films and their heterostructures. Large-area 2D TMD monolayer films are assembled at air-water interface in a few minutes by simple addition of ethyl acetate (EA) onto dilute aqueous dispersions of TMDs. Assembled TMD films can be directly transferred onto arbitrary nonplanar and flexibl… Show more

“…Conversely, an SEM image of the exfoliated Ti 3 C 2 T x confirmed the formation of paper-like film structures ( Figure 2E ). In addition, larger domain films, compared with the observed lateral size in AFM, were obtained by the random stacking of the exfoliated flakes, which were similar to other two-dimensional nanomaterials ( Dikin et al, 2007 ; Yun et al, 2017 ).…”

“…In recent years, MoS 2 nanosheets with one or a few atomic layers have been successfully exfoliated from its bulk crystals or synthesized by chemical vapor deposition methods due to their great promise in nanoelectronics and catalyst applications . It provides a good sample platform for studying the frictional properties between atomic layers of MoS 2 .…”

“…LbL structures can be produced using various solution‐processing techniques, including spin coating, [ 58 ] spray coating, [ 59 ] dip coating, [ 60 ] solution casting, [ 61 ] and interfacial assembly. [ 62 ] Stable dispersions of exfoliated MXene sheets in aqueous and organic solvents can be prepared due to their surface hydrophilicity, which allows for processing with a number of nanostructures and polymers using solution‐processing methods. [ 63 ] An LbL structure using two distinct alternating layers can also improve the mechanical strength.…”
