Ultrasonic-Assisted Synthesis of N-Doped, Multicolor Carbon Dots toward Fluorescent Inks, Fluorescence Sensors, and Logic Gate Operations

Abstract: Over past decades, the multicolor carbon dots (M-CDs) have attracted enormous attentions due to their tunable photoluminescence and versatile applications. Herein, the nitrogen-doped (N-doped) M-CDs including green, chartreuse, and pink emissive CDs are successfully synthesized by ultrasonic treatment of kiwifruit juice with different additive reagents such as ethanol, ethylenediamine, and acetone. Owing to their strong fluorescence upon irradiation with 365 nm UV light, the highly water-soluble M-CDs present … Show more

“…Both variants of CDs exhibited an excitationdependent fluorescence behavior like most other CDs. [31][32][33] In particular, as the excitation wavelength was changed from 310 to 400 nm, the maximum emission peak of the CDs red-shifted, and its fluorescence intensity increased and subsequently dropped. This behavior is believed to be caused by the optical selection of differently sized nanoparticles or the different surface-emission traps.…”

“…Moreover, CDs with diverse properties can be attained by adjusting the ultrasonic power, reaction time, ratio of carbon sources, solvents, etc. Xu et al developed the multicolour N-doped CDs from kiwi-fruit juice by the ultrasonic synthesis approach and applied these CDs in investigations of fluorescent inks, sensors, and logic gate operations [ 67 ].…”

“…In addition, three color-based tandem luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) are further demonstrated. Xu et al [183] successfully synthesized three kinds of emission MCDs including green, chartreuse, and pink through the combination of biomass materials and chemical molecules by ultrasonic treatment of kiwifruit juice with different additives such as ethanol, ethylenediamine, and acetone. High water-soluble MCDs have strong fluorescence under 365 nm UV irradiation.…”
