Ultrasonic properties of epoxy resin/marble waste powder composites

Abstract: Non‐destructive techniques are suitable alternatives for characterization of composites. The aim of this study is to analyze the composites of epoxy resin (ER)/marble waste powder (MWP) by ultrasonic method. The effects of marble powder, coagulant type, and dosage on the ultrasonic properties of ER/MWP composites were investigated. The ultrasonic wave velocities of composites were measured with the pulse–echo method at room temperature by a flaw detector. The values of the acoustic impedance, Poisson's ratio, … Show more

“…The elastic properties of the samples were determined according to the following equations which are valid only for isotropic materials. 26,28,30,4143 where ρe, L, G, K, E, µ, H, and Z are, respectively, the experimental density of the samples, the longitudinal modulus, shear modulus, bulk modulus, Young’s modulus of elasticity, Poisson’s ratio, ultrasonic micro-hardness, and acoustic impedance.…”

“…Marble dust is abrasive and causes irritation to the skin. Therefore, exposure to silica, that is a component of marble dust, is one risk factor for developing scleroderma . However, the disadvantages of marble powder, as stated by Prassoamakis and Prassianakis , could be overcome; i.e., the marble powder is one of the most versatile substances on earth used in many applications and in a wide variety of forms.…”

“…One of the way to form new conductive polymer with better mechanical properties is to prepare epoxy/PANI composites by mixing PANI with ER. Because of their increasing engineering applications, ER and ER‐based composites are extensively studied in recent year . However, no investigation of the elastic properties of ER/PANI composites by ultrasonic velocity measurement has been reported.…”
