Ultrasonic seed treatment and Cu application modulate photosynthesis, grain quality, and Cu concentrations in aromatic rice

Abstract: The present study investigated the effects of ultrasonic seed treatment and Cu application on grain yield, photosynthesis, grain quality, and Cu contents of aromatic rice. The ultrasonic treated and nontreated seeds of two aromatic rice cultivars, i.e., Nongxiang 18 and Meixiangzhan 2, were sown in Cu-contaminated soil with 1.5 and 3.0 g(Cu) m −2 whereas the soil without Cu application was taken as control (CK). Ultrasonic seed treatment and Cu application increased grain yield by 2.7-33.5% in Nongxiang 18 and… Show more

“…In the present experiment, we observed that ultrasonic seed treatment significantly reduced the grain protein content of three fragrant rice varieties in both cropping seasons. Our results were inconsistent with the study of Mo et al [21], which showed that ultrasonic seed treatment has no effect on protein content. The differences might be attributed to the ultrasonic frequency and treating time.…”

“…Compared with CK, UT treatment increased the grain yield of three fragrant rice varieties by 4.76%-42.83% across two cropping seasons. Our results were consistent with the study by Mo et al [21]. The improvement in yield was attributed to the increased grain number per panicle for three fragrant rice varieties.…”

“…The effect of foliar application of Zn, Mn and Cu on the wheat was studied by Stepien and Wojtkowiak (2016) and reported that the application enhanced the growth as well as yield characteristics and combined application proved more beneficial. The research also indicated that the foliar application of CuSO 4 on the ultrasonic-treated rice promoted the photosynthetic efficiency along with other yield parameters (Mo et al 2020).…”

“…Fragrant rice is favored by people because of its unique fragrance and flavor and the demand for fragrant rice is increasing in domestic and international markets (Bryant and McClung 2011). Previous studies reported the selenium, silicon, and copper effect of the yield, growth, and antioxidant response in fragrant rice (Liu et al 2020;Mo et al 2017Mo et al , 2020, and the nitrate reductase (NR), is essential to stress such as ZnO nanoparticles in rice plant (Huang et al 2020). The yield reduction in fragrant rice under Pb-contaminated soil was reported by a previous study (Ashraf and Tang 2017).…”
