Ultrasonic vs Drill Implant Site Preparation: Post-Operative Pain Measurement Through VAS, Swelling and Crestal Bone Remodeling: A Randomized Clinical Study

Abstract: Background: Piezosurgery is a surgical procedure that is able to perform osteotomies by a micrometric and selective cut of the bone tissue. The objective of this investigation was to evaluate two different techniques; an ultrasonic device, and a drill approach for implant site preparation. Methods: A total of fifty patients were recruited for the randomized clinical trial to receive dental implants for fixed prosthetic restoration in the posterior mandible and were allotted to two groups. In Group A the implan… Show more

“…Ventilation can reduce virus concentration in the air, limiting airborne transmission, but also the settling of viral particles, causing fomite transmission, for example, in influenza viruses [ 71 ]. The use of high ventilation rates during and after aerosol-generating procedures, such as high-speed drills, or piezosurgery [ 72 75 ] or between two patients has the potential to efficiently reduce circulating concentration of viral particles.…”

“…So, the thermal cycle, although increasing the oxygen content, did not affect the cutting ability of the drills. Steel drills are considered as suitable materials in dental implant bed preparation for oral rehabilitation; however, many biologic and physical events occur after osteotomy preparation [43]. One of the major reasons for these is the release of microparticles of steel, which threaten and induce reaction in bone or soft tissues.…”

“…The success of an implant surgery depends on the bone and soft tissue healing after the process of implant site preparation [2,21]. During healing and function of a prothesis the bacterial adhesion is very important for a high success of an implant [22].…”

“…The long-term predictability of the restoration involves several aspects concerning the implant surface [1], surgical techniques [2,3] and the anchorages used. Screwretained prosthesis, cemented, or a combined approach have been proposed as prosthetic connections between the implant and the restoration.…”
