Ultraviolet radiation rate in Mashhad, Iran

Abstract: Todays, Climate change can be effect on the intensity of ultraviolet (UV) radiation and cause of many human diseases. In this cross-sectional study, changes of the intensity of UV ray were associated with the changes in latitude and longitude, height, climatic conditions, natural and human-made artifacts. Given that the highest radiation intensity was at the beginning of the summer, the radiation rate of UV ray in Mashhad was measured in the summer using a Hagner radiometer, the UV-A model. The radiation rate … Show more

“…Mashhad city with a relatively dry climate located in the northeast of Iran is the nation's second most populated city with over three million residents (Department of Studies and Planning, 2017). It has an area of about 351 km 2 and is 1050 m above sea level with an average slope of 0.6% (Akhlaghi et al, 2018;Pouresmaeili et al, 2018). The number of vehicle trips per day within the city has increased in recent decade from 4,035,560 to 6,576,268 with an increased rate of trips per person from 1.62 to two trips per 24 h (Department of Studies and Planning, 2007;Department of Studies and Planning, 2017).…”

“…Studies on UV radiation in Iran are few and long-term spectral measurements of UV radiation are scarce in most parts of the country. Based on a survey in different cities in Iran (Bouzarjomehri and Tsapaki, 2012;Vatani et al 2013;Babaee et al, 2016;Akhlaghi et al, 2018), the natural radiation dose rate is above the normal range, which indicates the need to regularly review, monitor and report the annual effective dose of natural radiation (Shahbazi-Gahrouei et al, 2013). Most of the northern and northwestern provinces of Iran have a high risk of esophageal cancer.…”

“…Yousif et al [24] performed UVB radiation measurements at Valladolid University, Spain where the weather is warm in summer due wind velocity trend over Atlantic Ocean. The UV radiation rate in Mashhad, Iran is determined by Akhlaghi et al [25]. The results indicate that the average rate of UV in Mashhad is lower than 10 W/m 2 , which is the standard global.…”
