“…Paraspirifer is known to range from the upper Emsian to the Eifelian of different areas-Europe, North America, North Africa-of the world (Godefroid and Fagerstrom, 1983); in North America it reaches the Givetian in the Hamilton Group in N e w York (Marcellus and lower Skaneateles formations) of N e w York, and the Silica Shale in Ohio (Godefroid and Fagerstrom, 1983;Brett et al, 1991). The two other spiriferid representatives are only ques tionably assigned to the genera Subcuspidella and Cyrtospirifer respectively; the former is known from the Emsian of western Europe and North Africa (Drot, 1986;Godefroid, 2001), while the latter ranges from the Middle Devonian to the Lower Car boniferous.
