Understanding the Correlation of Crystal Atoms with Photochemistry Property: Zn5(OH)6(CO3)2vs. ZnCO3

Abstract: In this work, Zn5(OH)6(CO3)2 nanosheets are prepared by a simple hydrothermal method, and ZnCO3 are also prepared to compare. It is found that compared with ZnCO3, hydroxyl anion greatly changes energy band structure and oxidation potential of valence band, and improves charge separation efficiency and rates of Zn5(OH)6(CO3)2. The time‐resolved photoluminescence (PL) results show that the average lifetime (τ) of carriers is 1.485 ns for Zn5(OH)6(CO3)2, while 0.380 ns for ZnCO3, illustrating a greatly low carri… Show more

“…Based on the XPS spectra of ZnO powder and Zn foil (see Supporting Information Figures S3 and S4 and Table S1), the peak at 1022.4 eV is assigned to bulk zinc oxide. The peak at higher binding energy compared with that of the ZnO peak is often observed when other species such as carbonate, 58 acetate, 59 and hydroxide 60 are formed on the surface of ZnO. Thus, we attributed the peak at 1023.3 eV to the adsorbate-derived peak, although the broadness of the Zn 2p peak makes it difficult to deconvolute the overlapping peaks corresponding to those species unambiguously.…”

“…The results of the FTIR evaluation (Figure 3) show that the absorbed peaks between 620 and 1430 cm –1 are related to the C-O (Liu and Teng, 2018; Lopes et al, 2018) bonds related to the various metal (mostly Ca) carbonate compounds (X-CO 3 ) in the travertine. Clearly, these bonds have disappeared with increasing calcination temperature.…”

“…Chemical analysis of the BE-ZnO NPs using EDS and XPS confirmed the presence Zn, O, and C (Table S1 and Figure S2a). A detailed XPS analysis of Zn 2p (Figure 1d) show energies of 1021.8 and 1044.9 eV for BE-ZnO8 and 1021.7 and 1044.7 eV for BE-ZnO12, co firming the exclusive presence of ZnO [33][34][35]. These energies are attributed to Zn 2p1 and Zn 2p3/2 [34], indicating that Zn exists in the form of Zn(II) in both NPs [34].…”
