“…14A). 58,93,94 Taking advantage of the different reactivities of the tags, we have independently and quantitatively decorated MOFs with two different moieties, generating uniformly bifunctionalised MOF pores (Fig. 14B).…”

“…In the last two decades, various functional groups have been investigated for MOF functionalizations. [10][11][12][13][14] Pre-functionalization and post-synthetic covalent modification (PSM) have been studied to integrate organic functionalities into MOFs. Target functional groups can be installed in the organic ligand before MOF formation (i.e., pre-functionalization) or the desired organic group can be incorporated into the MOF after MOF formation using solidstate PSM.…”

“…Since Cohen introduced the term “tandem modification” to represent a sequence of two PSM reactions, several tandem covalent procedures have been reported. However, examples of sequential covalent PSM greater than two steps are limited to procedures on the ultrastable MOF MIL-101(Cr) (a nitration–reduction–urea formation sequence and nitration–reduction–in situ azidation–CuAAC “click” sequences , ) and one example on a UiO-66-NH 2 skeleton (again featuring an in situ azidation–CuAAC sequence) . Such sequential PSM (sPSM) of MOF linkers is akin to organic synthesis inside a crystalline material.…”
