Uniportal Endoscopic Surgery of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: Technique and Clinical Results

Abstract: The endoscopic carpal tunnel release is a new minimally invasive method which has been used to decompress the median nerve in the carpal tunnel for the past decade. Advantages of this method should be a decreased postoperative morbidity and earlier return to work. Preoperative complaints, postoperative results and complications of the therapy for a total of 60 patients are presented. All endoscopic releases were performed using the Agee uniportal technique. The overall success rate in our study was 56/60 (93.3… Show more

“…De los resultados de los pacientes se investigó sobre la recuperación (aparición de nuevos síntomas, no recuperación en el post operatorio, nuevas intervenciones, edema en la herida, cicatriz hipertrófica y el dolor). Respecto al dolor en pilares del túnel se buscó si este se presentó por más de tres meses, esto debido a que en otros estudios establecen su evolución autolimitada 16,17 , y otros no lo toman en cuenta como evento adverso.…”

“…Surgical treatment of CTS continues to be one of the most frequently performed operations for peripheral neuropathy 2,3,14) . Open carpal tunnel release (OCTR) has been the standard treatment for CTS that has failed non-surgical treatment and has provided excellent results, but could be associated with post-operative pillar pain, delayed improvement of pinch strength, and a slow return to work 7,11,24) . Many investigators have described various types of endoscopic carpal tunnel release (ECTR) procedures to decrease postoperative pillar pain and the duration of the hospital stay 5,6,20) .…”

“…Some investigators have studied the anatomic variations of the carpal tunnel contents and the anatomic relationship of the carpal tunnel to Guyon' s canal based on cadaveric specimens 3,7,8,11,14) and reported positional variability of ulnar neurovascular structures with different wrist positions 4,8,9,13,17,22) . However, results about deviation of neurovascular structures are based upon dissected specimens which may not entirely represent intra-operative situations when normal anatomy is not violated.…”
