Unruly wives in the household: Toward feminist genealogies for peace research

Abstract: Feminist scholars and activists have historically been written out of peace research, despite their strong presence in the early stages of the field. In this article, we develop the concept of “wifesization” to illustrate the process through which feminist and feminized interventions have been reduced to appendages of the field, their contributions appropriated for its development but unworthy of mention as independent producers of knowledge. Wifesization has trickle-down effects, not just for knowled… Show more

From the Shah Dynasty to the current era of democratic governments, women have played significant roles in Nepali politics, shaping modern Nepal and Nepalese women's movements.…”

“…Recently, feminist scholars have begun to excavate the early feminist contributions to peace research that were, at the time, written off as 'appendages' to the field (Lyytikäinen et al, 2020), while others have pointed to the importance of examining feminist activists' visions of peace in order to build more sustainable and just forms of peace (O'Reilly, 2016;Paarlberg-Kvam, 2019). “…Feminist peace research in the context of WPS implementation in peacebuilding and beyond is not restricted to the three themes captured so far. For instance, recent leadership in theorizing feminist peace research has been undertaken by Europe-based feminist scholars (Väyrynen et al, 2020;Wibben and Donahoe, 2020;Lyytikäinen et al, 2021). Others have focused on themes like nuclear non-proliferation (Duncanson and Eschle, 2008;Eschle, 2017; peacekeeping (Holvikivi, 2020) and masculinities (Duriesmith, 2020) often straddling peace research, and other subfields of international politics.…”
