Several resonances associated with the K 40 pure electric quadrupole interaction in KC10 3 have been detected which allow the determination of the K 40 -K 39 electric quadrupole moment ratio Q40/Q39 (1.244±0.002) and the asymmetry parameter 17(0.621 ± 0.004). These resonances were detected with a new steady-state double-resonance technique which has excellent stability and high sensitivity.Several resonances associated with the pure electric quadrupole spectra of K 40 in a KC10 3 crystal in a liquid-H 2 bath have been observed in samples with normal (0.012%) and enriched 1 (2.8%) K 40 isotopic abundances using a sensitive nuclear spin steady-state double-resonance technique. 2 The spin of K 40 is 4, and there are, in general, 21+1 or 9 nondegenerate energy levels whole values depend on Q, eq, and rjl the scalar quadrupole moment of K 40 , the maximum value of the electric-field gradient along a principal axis of the field-gradient tensor, and the asymmetry parameter, respectively.
