Untersuchung des 4 p 2 P 3/2- und 5p 2 P 3/2-Terms desKI-Spektrums durch Resonanzstreuung von Licht zur Bestimmung des Kernquadrupolmoments von K40

Abstract: Resonance scattering of light as function of magnetic field has been used to investigate the hyperfine structure of the 4p 2P3/2and 5p zP3/z-terms in the potassium/-spectrum, 40 using a sample enriched in the K -isotope. With increasing magnetic field strength a structure containing two characteristic signals for K 4~ was observed. Taking into account the small ratio of hypeffine structure splitting to radiation width, these signals could be interpreted as an overlapping of three level-crossings. The line shap… Show more

“…Furthermore, a large enough rf field for optimum signals was not available. We obtained an accurate value for the ratio Q 40 /Q 39 and from this found a value for Q 40 in excellent agreement with that of Ney et al 5 One must note with some surprise the fact that signals from K 39 nuclei observed at I and i of the K 39 -resonance frequency overlap signals from K 40 nuclei near 235 and 175 kHz. The evidence clearly indicates that this is only a coincidence.…”

“…Furthermore, the density matrices computed with the theoretical model can shed light on the coherent processes associated with the excitation of the atoms, which is useful for computing fluorescence intensities for arbitrary directions and polarizations. Although the atomic constants involved in the transitions of the D 2 line of rubidium are well known, a precise model of level-crossing signals can be necessary for extracting atomic constants in situations where the large number of level crossings washes out individual peaks or where the hyperfine splitting is small [24]. The utility of such a model for the hyperfine constants A for the 7,9,10D 5/2 states of cesium from electric-field level crossings was demonstrated, for example, in [25].…”
