Show more

“…Potentially the level of phosphorylation could be manipulated either through breeding or by agronomic means. Previous studies with increasing supply of P to experimental fields showed limited effect on starch phosphorylation (Edelbauer, 1988;Miqa, 1983;Putz, 1982;Putz & Tegge, 1976). However, it is not clear from these studies to what extent the level of starch phosphorylation will respond to larger changes in the P-status of the plant.…”

“…Field experiments by Edelbauer (1988), Miqa (1982Miqa ( , 1983, Putz (1982) and Putz & Tegge (1976) have shown relatively limited effects of increasing the supply of Pfertilizer on the level of starch phosphate and on gelatinization properties of the starch. Applying phosphate fertilizer to soils may result in considerable immobilisation, leaving part of the phosphate inaccessible to the plants.…”

“…The high swelling power exhibited by these varieties may be due to low associative forces which lead to easy breakdown of the starch granules. It has been reported that the phosphorus content determines the granular strength in potato starch by forming cross linkages between the starch molecules [14,15]. In order to verify the role of phosphorus in the binding strength of cassava starch molecules, phosphorus contents in selected starch samples which showed high and low swelling power were compared.…”
