Upland Farming System Erosion Yields and Their Constraints to Change for Sustainable Agricultural Conservation Practices: A Case Study of Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) Change in Indonesia

Abstract: In the upper catchments of Southeast Asia, land use change from forest to agricultural systems generated land degradation and conflicts between uplanders and lowlanders. More sustainable cropping systems are proposed to upper‐catchment farmers. Grass fodder strip (GFS) is an effective anti‐erosion practice, and it involves lower costs for farmers. However, labour and cash constraints are sometimes preventing farmers to implement it. To evaluate farms' current impact and adaptation capacities, we need a compreh… Show more

“…Metode USLE Tingkat bahaya erosi dapat dihitung menggunakan metode USLE (Universal Soil Loss Equation). Dimana metode USLE adalah salah satu metode pendugaan erosi yang cukup baik dipergunaakan unruk prediksi erosi pada level perkebunan (Andriyani et al, 2017). Perhitungan prediksi erosi dilakukan menggunakan metode USLE dengan Persamaan 7 berikut (Arsyad, 2010).…”

“…Agriculture remains a major sector absorbing around 35% of the national workforce (Ginting and Aji 2015 ), despite declining shares of agricultural sectors to national products due to increasing industrialization and urbanization. Agricultural farming systems and livelihoods in Indonesia are characterized by their mostly small-scale size, subjectivity to erosion, land conflict, low income, and credit dependence (Adiningsih and Karama 1992 ; Mohri et al 2013 ; Andriyani et al 2017 ; Mariyono 2019 ). Spatial variation of bio-physical systems and diversity in cultural and social capitals exist and suggest the diversity in farming typology (Wiersum 2006 ).…”
