“…Most of them lack surface pitting and show minor diagenesis. Nevertheless, the conodonts are mainly opaque black, with a colour alteration index of~5 (Jing et al 2017), indicating a relatively high level of thermal influence (Epstein et al 1977). Thus, the δ 13 C carb data from the Shiyanhe Formation in the Sigang section largely preserve the original signal of perturbations in the carbon cycle, but some degree of diagenetic effects unavoidably exists.…”

“…Biostratigraphic investigations of conodonts from the Shiyanhe Formation in the Sigang section have been successively carried out since the 1980s (Pei & Cai, 1987;Liu et al 1991;Mei, 1995;Wang et al 2011;Jing et al 2017). However, the conodont biostratigraphic frameworks proposed by Pei & Cai (1987), Liu et al (1991) and Mei (1995) are somewhat contradictory, which made the correlation of the Shiyanhe Formation debatable (Rong et al 2015;Jing et al 2017). In order to provide a precise relative age for the Shiyanhe Formation, Jing et al (2017) reassessed the conodont biostratigraphy based on a collection of more than 8800 identified conodont specimens from the Sigang section.…”

“…1). This region is part of the eastern Qinling orogenic belt, which formed the northern margin of the South China paleoplate (Rong et al, 2015; Jing et al, 2017) located in the equatorial region during the Late Ordovician (Torsvik and Cocks, 2017).
