The object of research is the process of lubrication of marine trunk diesel engines. The subject of research is marine diesel engine oils, which provide lubrication, cooling and separation of friction surfaces. The analysis of the operation of marine diesel engines using motor oils with different structural characteristics is carried out. The studies are carried out on Yanmar 6EY18AL diesel engines of a Multipurpose Vessel class ship with deadweight of 27540 tons. The objective of research is to determine the effect of the structural characteristics of the oil layer (contact angle and thickness) on the performance parameters of a marine diesel engine and the performance characteristics of the oil used in its circulating lubrication system. At the same time, the compression pressure, the concentration of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases, and the temperature of the exhaust gases after the cylinder are considered as the operating parameters of the diesel engine; as performance characteristics of the oil – its Base Number, as well as its Wear and Contaminant Elements. The studies are carried out on two diesel engines of the same type, in the circulating lubrication system of which oils with different structural characteristics were used. Structural characteristics of the oil layer were determined by ellipsometry. The operational characteristics of the diesel engine – using the Doctor diagnostic system. Oil performance – by spectrographic analysis. It has been established that an increase in the contact angles of wetting and the thickness of the oil layer improves the heat and power and environmental performance of a diesel engine. At the same time (for the period of operation of diesel engines 500–1000 hours), the decrease in compression pressure in the cylinder slows down, the temperature of gases after the cylinder decreases, and the emission of nitrogen oxides with exhaust gases decreases. In addition, the wear of diesel parts and oil oxidation are reduced. The information obtained in the course of the study on the structural characteristics of motor oils will provide the possibility of their selection and further use of those that will contribute to a better maintenance of the operational performance of marine diesel engines.

The object of research is the process of operation of marine diesel engines using biodiesel fuel. The subject of research is the process of experimental determination of the optimal concentration of biodiesel fuel in a mixture with fuel of petroleum origin. At the same time, a simultaneous maximum increase in environmental and minimum decrease in the economic parameters of the operation of a marine diesel engine should be ensured. The studies were carried out on Hyundai Heavy Industries 5H17/28 marine diesel engines. Three such diesel engines were part of the power plant of a specialized marine ship with deadweight of 9600 tons. The study was aimed at determining the concentration of biofuel in a mixture with diesel fuel, which provides the best environmental performance of a diesel engine. The fuel supply circuit to the first diesel did not change and the diesel was operated on RMB30 fuel. Two other diesel engines were operated on a fuel mixture – RMB30 fuel and B99.9 FAME biofuel. The content of biofuel in the mixture varied in the range of 5–20 %. The main quantities measured during the experiment were the concentration of nitrogen oxides and the volumetric content of carbon monoxide in the exhaust gases, as well as the specific effective fuel consumption. By switching groups of consumers, the operation of diesel engines was carried out at the same load, the support of which was required during the experiment. The load on diesel engines during the experiments varied in the range of 55–85 % of the nominal value. The operation of diesel engines in each of the studied modes was carried out for at least 1.5–2 hours, during which the main parameters were measured and the obtained values were averaged. It has been established that the use of biofuel increases the environmental friendliness of the marine diesel engine: – by 7.6–26.61 % (depending on the diesel loading and the content of biofuel in the fuel mixture), the emission of nitrogen oxides with exhaust gases is reduced; – by 3.8–23.6 % (depending on diesel loading and biofuel content in the fuel mixture) reduces the emission of carbon oxides with exhaust gases. It has been also determined that when using biofuel, there is an increase in the specific effective fuel consumption by 0.5–8.65 %, which reduces the efficiency of a diesel engine. The optimal composition of the fuel mixture containing biofuel is proposed to be determined experimentally for each diesel load, taking into account its environmental and economic indicators.

Control and regulation of the density of technical fluids during their transportation by sea specialized vessels

The object of research is the process of transporting drilling slurry through specialized marine vessels of the Platform Supply Vessels class. The subject of research is the sedimentation stability of the drilling slurry along the height of the cargo tank, which is proposed to be defined as a relative change in vertical density near the surface and bottom of the cargo tank. The studies were carried out on a specialized sea vessel with a displacement of 7320 tons. The design of the vessel provided for the reception and transportation of drilling slurry in four cargo tanks located on the port and starboard sides of the vessel. It has been experimentally established that during the 48-hour transportation, the density of the drilling slurry in the bottom part increases to 19.7 %; decrease in density on the surface – up to 7.8 %; decrease in the sedimentation resistance of the drilling slurry along the depth of the cargo tank – up to 29.85 %. A variant of modernization of the drilling slurry transportation system by installing additional circulation pumps providing forced circulation of the drilling slurry between cargo tanks is proposed. By using programmable microcontrollers (performing turning on/off the circulation pumps), it is possible to provide the following conditions for transporting the drilling fluid: an increase in the density of the drilling fluid in the bottom part up to 0.3 %; decrease in density on the surface – up to 0.25 %; decrease in the sedimentation resistance of the drilling slurry along the depth of the cargo tank – up to 8.01 %. It has been experimentally established that the creation of additional circulation and automatic support of the sedimentation resistance of the drilling fluid in the range of 2–7 % contributes to: – increasing the relative performance of cargo pumps from 38–55 % to 92–96 %; – reducing the time of pumping drilling slurry from cargo tanks to the drilling platform from 7.1 to 3.2 hours; – maintaining the technical condition of equipment, pipelines and elements of the drilling slurry transportation and pumping system.
