“…In adults with pancreatic insufficiency, the determination of faecal fat has been defined as unnecessary [7] and alternatives to measuring faecal fat have been proposed [4,9,11]. However none of these methods seem suitable in children [10], in particular steatocrit and stool microscopy for fats are unreliable in our experience.…”

“…A Prosparol fat absorption test for malabsorption, by measuring the level of serum lipids after a fatty meal 20 29 30 , was found very suitable for geriatric patients. They were kept in bed for the period of examination to make it more comfortable for them and to make sure they did not take any meal or drink.…”

“…‐ These were examined in all patients by LKB ***8.600 Reaction Rate Analyser. In those with serum triglycerides (TG) below 0.88 mmol/l the fat absorption test 30 measuring the peak rises in serum esterified fatty acid (SEFA) and TG 20 29 30 was carried out.…”

“…The increase in serum or plasma particulate fat after an oral fat load has been the basis of several tests for fat malabsorption (Frazer and Stewart, 1937;Goldbloom, Blake, and Cameron 1964;Osmon, Zinn, and Wharton, 1957;Mullinger, 1968;Fosbrooke and Rudd, 1966;Penfold, 1967;Penfold and Keynes, 1971). In recent years, however, Stone and Thorp (1966) have shown nephelometry to be a far more convenient method for estimating particulate fat in serum or plasma than those used previously, and results correlate well with those of established methods (Buckley et al, 1970;Stone and Thorp, 1966;Stone et al, 1970).…”
