Rural populations should be considered a vulnerable group within social work's social justice framework. However, the degree to which social work research and scholarship engage with questions of significance to underserved rural populations remains unknown. This study sought to determine how many articles in highly ranked social work journals give prominent attention to rural populations and issues. A search of the highly ranked social work journals selected from the Journal Citation Reports for the Social Sciences found only 71 articles that explicitly focus on rural populations among a total of 3,004 peer-reviewed articles in 14 top social work journals during the years 2004 through 2008. Possible reasons for the paucity of rural-focused articles within social work journals are posited. We discuss the relative contributions of these journals to development of a comprehensive and useful knowledge base within social work for addressing the needs of rural issues. Future recommendations are made for expanding attention to scholarship in this area.

Son yıllarda, eğitim bilimlerindeki birincil çalışmaların sayısı artıkça kapsamlı ve sistematik araştırma sentezlerine olan ihtiyaç da artmaktadır. En etkili araştırma sentezi yollarından bir tanesi olan meta-analizin çeşitli uygulamalarının, sosyal bilimler ve eğitim bilimleri de dâhil olmak üzere birçok alanda teşvik edilmesinin temel sebebi budur. Bu makalenin temel amacı, metaanalizin diğer araştırma sentezi yöntemlerine kıyasla zayıf ve güçlü taraflarını sorgulayarak meta-analiz için kavramsal bir çerçeve oluşturmaktır. Bununla birlikte, sabit-etki ve rastgeleetkiler modellerinin karşılaştırılması, farklı etki büyüklüğü ölçüleri, analiz birimi, yayın yanlılığı ve birincil çalışmaların kalitesi gibi geçerlikle ilgili sorunlar ile heterojenlik, ara-değişken ve güç analizleri gibi bazı metodolojik ve istatistiksel hususlar detaylı şekilde tartışılmaktadır. Ayrıca bu makale kapsamında, meta-analizde kullanılan istatistiksel analizler için kullanılabilecek yazılımlar hakkında kısa ve öz bir bilgiye ve meta-analizlerin raporlanması için geliştirilen standartların özetine yer verilmiştir. Sadece bilimin birikimli doğası için değil aynı zamanda politika belirleyiciler ve uygulayıcılar için çok önemli bir yere sahip olması sebebiyle meta-analizlerin ne kadar iyi yapıldığı ve raporlandığı çok büyük bir önem taşımaktadır. Buradan hareketle, bu makaleyle meta-analiz uygulayıcılarına meta-analiz araştırmaları sırasında yararlanabilecekleri giriş seviyesinde bir rehber sağlamayı amaçlıyoruz. Despite Census Bureau projections that youth from minority cultures will comprise the majority of the nation's youth in approximately a decade, little research has been conducted on culturally sensitive interventions (CSIs). Accordingly, this study sought to determine: (1) the effectiveness of CSIs designed to address health and behavioral health outcomes, (2) whether effectiveness varies depending on the class or type of outcome, and (3) whether race/ethnicity moderates effectiveness. The results suggest that CSIs (n = 21) are modestly effective (Hedges' g = .239, 95% C.I. = .139 to .339, p < .001). Effectiveness did not vary significantly by outcome class or by race/ethnicity. Especially in the latter case, however, the pattern of point estimates raises the possibility of moderation with an increase in power. Suggestions for future research conclude the article.
