Use of the DEA method to verify the performance model for hospitals

Abstract: This paper employs the method of data envelopment analysis (DEA) to compare the relative effi ciency of Polish hospitals in meso perspective. It means that the indicators selected to measure the performance of hospitals were aggregated at the regional level (a level of 16 Polish provinces). As the hospitals are a critical part of the healthcare system, they are increasingly the subject of analyses aimed at defi ning, measuring, and improving their performance. Therefore, in the methodology part, we present the… Show more

“…Some of the papers on Polish hospital efficiency analyzed the performance at the regional level-in these cases provinces (voivodeships, i.e. Poland's first-level administrative regions) were compared instead of individual units [23][24][25]. Miszczyńska [18] is one of the latest studies to provide results that can be generalized for the whole population of Polish hospitals.…”

“…102 In contrast, the Raman spectra of the second donor's sample (Fig. 8B) contain strong contributions from cholesterol 92,93 (characteristic Raman band at 700 cm −1 ) and carotenoids 105 (characteristic Raman band at 1520 cm −1 ), and do not exhibit any signature of nucleic acids. The grouping is performed in the following manner: (a) predominantly saturated lipids with weak protein contribution, (b) strong contributions from proteins and lipids, and (c) like (b), but with an additional strong carotenoid contribution, which is clearly revealed by a characteristic 105,106 Raman difference spectrum (d).…”
