“…The SNR of the y-ATP peak in the skin spectra obtained from the weighted subtraction of two 2-h acquisitions with the crossover coil was approximately 4. The average S N R of the y-ATP peak in spectra obtained in 1 h using the eight-loop parallel array coil was approximately 4.5, similar to that obtained with the scaled-up zigzag coil (8). However, both of the latter spectra include a small amount of muscle signal.…”
Increasing the area of skin sampled while maintaining selectivity to limit muscle contamination, relying simply on coil geometry, is practical using a parallel configuration of long narrow strip coils.

“…Moreover, the examination time should be kept as short as possible to avoid disturbances of the metabolism of the skin caused by the contact with the surface coil and to preserve the comfort of the subjects (but long enough to be‐non‐detrimental to the signal‐to‐noise ratio). Several teams have proposed solutions to overcome these difficulties (19–22). We have used a slotted crossover surface coil specifically designed to minimize depth sensitivity while maintaining high probe sensitivity over the surface of the skin to achieve good SNR (18, 23).…”
(i) baseline levels of energy metabolites in skin do not seem to vary with age; (ii) low dose UVA irradiation induces a rapid response in the energy metabolism of the skin; (iii) the kinetics of the response and recovery after an aggression by UVA suggest that older skin has significantly less energy rebound after a stress situation than younger skin; (iv) the energy reserve in older skin can be protected efficiently against UVA-induced stress by restoring barrier function and modulating the inflammatory response.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
