Using an Intelligent Tutoring System to Support Learners’ WMC in e-learning: Application in Mathematics Learning

Abstract: Learning is a complex process linked to a number of individual, cognitive and affective characteristics of the learner. In this context, the learner’s Working Memory (WM) concept has also been identified as a preacher of learning performance. In the learning process, solving a problem is an essential part of the learner's WM. Its capacity and performance are predictive factors of academic success. The success of the given problem depends on a good selection, processing and transformation of this information. T… Show more

“…In this section, we will elaborate the papers that we have collected for our reference to complete this paper; as we know, our title is about an intelligent tutoring system for mathematics; some of the students said that it is easier to learn mathematics after trying the intelligent tutoring system because of the efficiency in material and in nowadays' terms of teaching [10], many students find that mathematics is hard to learn but all of that depend on the Working Memory (WM) from the students themselves; in this context, students' working memory was identified as the important thing in learning performance, so solving the problem in mathematics too is an essential part of the student working memory [11].…”

“…Students interacting with intelligent tutors are supposed to enhance their cognitive capabilities, as much as just provide knowledge. Mamoun et al [46] proposed to set up an e-learning platform integrating an ITS capable to manage the limited ability of the learner, with regard to the working memory skills.…”

“…Ahn & Edwin (2018) have demonstrated that GeoGebra can improve mathematics learning significantly. El Mamoun et al (2018) have proposed an Intelligent Tutorial System (ITS) that can enhance learners' mathematics learning capabilities. Chitra & Raj (2018) have pointed to the fact that virtual learning provides new learning and teaching opportunities for both students and instructors, leading to more profound collaborations between the two.…”
