The current study aims to adopt a new model for creating innovative OERs. The model, called ‘GHOSHEH’, supports OERs through multiple learner-centered strategies with authentic assessments, and focuses on practice and reflection. The model is internally validated based on international experts’ reviews. Rogers’ process for diffusion of innovations is followed in order to introduce and adopt the GHOSHEH model based on a sample of 117 teachers and experts from different states in the Arab world, including Palestine, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, UAE, Iraq, and Yemen. Mixed methods research is used: qualitative data are collected from a descriptive case study, and quantitative data are collected from the responses of the participants to a questionnaire about adopting the GHOSHEH model. Results reveal that the model involves four main processes: The first is analysis of content and context. The second is implementing sequenced activities that promote reflection, problem solving, and collaboration. The third is a formative assessment followed by providing continuous feedback. The fourth is peer sharing of the created OERs. Moreover, results show that teachers and experts from different states in the Arab world overwhelmingly adopted the model, and there is evidence of the model’s advantages, simplicity, compatibility, trialability, and observability.

To complement the exploration of action research given in the HEA action research practice guide (Arnold and Norton 2018), we offer a collection of case studies to provide a snapshot of the types of action research being undertaken across the higher education (HE) sector. These case studies were submitted by colleagues following a single request on a mailing list. 1 The cases incorporate diverse themes including curriculum development, interactive teaching methods, use of technology in teaching, students as researchers, teacher education, student transition, and inclusive practice. These issues offer a glimpse into the concerns of higher education practitioners.Each case study provides an individual's story of their action research journey. These accounts are not full research reports. They provide personal insights into the work that was undertaken, assessments of the impact that their research has had on practice, and a summary of any lessons learnt in the process.As we read these accounts, we were struck by the way that action research is providing a vehicle for established and new staff alike to develop, explore, question, and evidence their practice. Some of the accounts provided are from experienced pedagogues, and others are from those researching and writing publically for the first time.

There is a growing interest in improving the quality of higher education in Yemen. This is evident from the adoption of curriculum reviews by various universities, conferences centring around the quality of education, as well as the various institutions focusing on the quality of education. The drive has focused mainly on the perspective of the teaching profession. Little research has focused on the perspective of the students. This is viewed by the authors as a missing link since the students are the beneficiaries of the education they receive. Thereby, it is viewed as a fundamental perspective which should be incorporated in the overall drive for enhancing the quality of higher education in Yemen. This research attempts to bring the perspective of the students at the final year at the various departments in the Faculty of Engineering at Sana’a University. It is important for the various departments to know what students perceive as important and to evaluate their performance in the various factors in order to focus their efforts on the important factors where their performance is found to need attention. The research uses a quantitative approach using surveys to provide the student perspective on the weights of various factors that affect the quality of their education as well as the performance of the department on each of the factors.
