Using Landsat Satellite Imagery to Determine Land Use/Land Cover Changes in Međimurje County, Croatia

Abstract: using Landsat satellite images. Spatial dynamics of LU/LC changes were quantified using three Landsat satellite images: MSS, TM and ETM+. Three series of the LU/LC maps of 1978, 1992 and 2007 were produced. Based on the Anderson classification system, LU/LC are classified as: water bodies, forest land, barren land, agricultural land and urban built-up land. Error matrices were used to assess classification accuracy. Significant buildings construction, construction of the reservoir lakes on the Drava River and… Show more

“…Durbešić (2012) made a typology of the landscapes of Southern Svilaja, where the main trends of change -melioration, forest degradation, extensification, intensification, and disappearance of a landscape type -were modelled with physical-geographical variables. Horvat (2013) investigated changes in Međimurje County from 1978 to 2007, without providing an exact explanation of their causes. Cvitanović (2014b) used an integrated approach to research of land use and land cover changes in Krapina-Zagorje County before and after the fall of socialism, isocialism, as well as in the post-socialist era (Cvitanović, 2014a).…”

“…Durbešić (2012) je provela tipizaciju pejzaža južne Svilaje, gdje su glavni trendovi promjene -melioracija, degradacija šume, ekstenzifikacija, intenzifikacija i nestanak tipa pejzaža -modelirani fizičko-geografskim varijablama. Horvat (2013) je proučavao promjene u Međimurskoj županiji od 1978. do 2007. godine, bez egzaktnog objašnjavanja njihovih uzroka. Cvitanović (2014b) je integriranim pristupom prouča-vao promjene načina korištenja zemljišta i zemljiš-nog pokrova u Krapinsko-zagorskoj županiji prije i poslije raspada socijalizma, odnosno u postsocijalističkom razdoblju (Cvitanović, 2014a).…”

“…More and more common in spatial monitoring is the usage of satellite imagery which has become the basis for spatial planning (Yang, 2002, Al Rawashdeh, Saleh, 2006Sönmez, Onur, Sari, Maktav, 2007;Schneider, 2012;Horvat, 2013). An important element in land-use monitoring is the analysis connected with green and agricultural areas.…”
